Hi, I’m Som

I’m writer living in Melbourne, Australia with roots deep inside my childhood bedrooms in Pune, India and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

I created my first journal when I was 7 using leftover pages from old school notebooks, and I haven’t stopped writing since. I write even when I’m not writing — an essay is always mid-flight in my head about my morning eggs, the softness of my daughter’s cheek when she first wakes up in the morning or the precise, heartbreaking notes of my mother’s chicken stew.

I write non-fiction essays from within my own life that are centred around the themes of staying still and slow, showing up as close as possible to your truest form, and the daily routines and rhythms that make me feel centred.

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be my heightened power of observation. While that might not send me shooting through the night sky in my underwear and cape, it brings me purpose, a way of relating to the world and when i’m lucky, a good laugh.
